Maui State of Mind

In my photographs, nature, vacation on May 31, 2008 at 4:12 pm

In Maui the air is warm and feels soft when it rolls along your skin.  The faint scent of plumeria flirts with your nose and leaves you wanting more.  I want to eat, sleep and drink its scent.  I almost fell asleep with a lei around my neck the other night, crushing the delicate flowers just to get a consistent whiff.

Time moves slowly here, thank goodness.  The days consist of play: Wake up at 6:30ish, drink coffee and eat breakfast on the lanai, snorkel in calm waters, rest on a beach, swim in the ocean, rest again, swim again, get lunch somewhere, go to another beach, swim, rest, swim, return to lanai, drink beer, rest, drink beer again, maybe swim again, get dinner somewhere, return to lanai, rest, rest, rest and fall fast asleep.

  1. Isn’t the smell of plumeria just insane? I bought a plant when I was in Kauai, hoping to bring the smell back with me. It lasted about a month and never flowered. I think that smell is destined to be an only-on-vacation experience, the vividness of the memory transporting us back to the trip in a more complete way than actually smelling the flowers would.

  2. DUDE – don’t you have something A LITTLE MORE IMPORTANT than a PLUMERIA to report on?????

    LIKE YOU GOT ENGAGED???!!!!!!!

  3. Hi!
You are in Maui (were)? I’m so jealous! We love Maui and Hawaii! I am Chloe’s mom and my husband saw that you linked to her YouTube videos and we are quite flattered. Then I saw you wrote about Plumerias! We live in MN and have been to Hawaii twice. First to conceive Chloe and 2nd to get married, in Maui. I want to move there! I’m trying to grow Plumeria and Tuberose right now. Try smelling the Tuberose leis. They are wonderful! The ABC stores sell the BEST Plumeria and Tuberose scented soaps and lotions, too.
I totally know what you mean about Maui. I miss it so much. I am glad you liked our videos. I’ll have to check more of your website too. Take care and Mahalo!
